U.S. Army Rapid Deployment Force: 36 HoursIn order to defend our interests around the world, we must have available a force that is trained and stationed in the United States but ready to go anywhere and fight on short notice. This force must be fully equipped and fully supplied. How rapidly this force can deploy is critical to our ability to convince our enemies or those who might hurt us, of our ability to get to them at any time, in any place. This program was shot over a period of 36 hours using several crews to capture the immediacy behind the scenes of a grueling exercise for the crack rapid deployment team. Iranian Assignment: U.S. Special Forces (Green Berets)Green Berets train at Fort Bragg in the 1960s and are subsequently assigned to the Special Forces Military Assistance Program to train their counterparts in the Imperial Iranian Army.Assignment Iran was produced by the United States Army in the early 1960s when relations with this Middle East country were a lot better than they are today. There are really two stories in this video: the state-side training of U.S. special forces (Green Berets) in the 1960s and the role of the Military Assistance Training Program in Iran.
The video starts with an excellent overview of Green Beret training at the Special Forces School located at Fort Bragg North Carolina. You'll see them making simulated combat jumps and employing guerilla warfare tactics in the fieldĂąambushing patrols and blowing bridges. This portion of the video also details survival tactics, living off the land "to adjust or die" is the philosophy here.
Next stop for the Green Berets is the Army Language School at Monterey California, where they are taught Farsi, the language spoken in Iran.
The video shifts to Iran where US Special Forces Mobile Training Units are engaged in training their Iranian counterparts. You'll see some interesting bayonet and hand-to-hand combat training., as well as, rifle, communications, jump and guerilla warfare tactics.
The video culminates with Green Berets participating with Iranian special forces in a combat jump exercise.
